Monday: Something pretty.

“Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” - Henry James

My friend Erin Jewell is an amazing photographer. And some of my favorite photos of hers are the ones she uploads to instagram from her phone, the photos that capture a moment in her family’s life … like this one of her adorable daughter at the beach. As summer winds down, this picture sums it up.

Friday – Week in Review.

Arrangement in Green and Black #12 Disco, Portrait of the Photographer’s Mother, http://www.alinesmithson.com

1) Obsessed with this book series. (And despite being in the young adult section, the sales clerk at Barnes-n-Noble swears to me that plenty of adults love it.)

2) Aline Smithson’s work reminds me of my grandmother. So the above work is now hanging in my office (despite the fact it makes no sense for the day job).

3) Of course, I now can’t afford the new sofa I so desperately need .. Maybe if it was crazy on sale at Nandina’s Birthday Celebration sale?

4) Hugs to CaseMate who immediately upped the pimpiness of my iPhone with this case. ATL HOLD IT DOWN.

5) Wholesome Wave Georgia rocks. So does this event.  Can’t wait for dinner Sunday.

Still.Life.

Stopped by for a preview of Still.Life., the next exhibit at Jennifer Schwartz Gallery and confirmed I am in love with Maggie Taylor.

It’s ethereal. It’s inspiring. It’s 2400$. Anyone want to pick this up for me?

Still.Life. | Opening Reception Friday, April 8th

Featuring  the work of Julie Blackmon, Michael J. Marshall, Aline Smithson and Maggie Taylor

Addendum: Also in love with Aline Smithson, who dresses her 85-year-old mother up in various costumes to create her series “Arrangement in Green and Black: Portrait of the Photographer’s Mother” … It’s Whistler come 2011.

Confession: I love poodles.

Not this kind:

Created by the team at The Good Food Truck, the Poodle is a beet dog nestled in a french-toast hot dog bun and covered with apple slaw, mustard and maple syrup. (That’s right. Syrup.) And it’s coming to midtown every Thursday, along with a whole bunch of other deliciousness.

I got an email this morning letting me know: STREET FOOD THURSDAYS BEGIN THIS WEEK IN MIDTOWN!

Midtown Alliance has partnered with Atlanta Street Food Coalition to bring nine vendors to the Woodruff Arts Center. That means that in less than 48 hours deliciousness will be RIGHT.OUTSIDE.MY.OFFICE.

Details: Every Thursday beginning April 7 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Participating vendors include: Yumbii, Westside Creamery, King of Pops, the Pickle, Good Food Truck, Souper Jenny, Yum Yum Cupcake, Tamale Queen and Rattletrap Coffee | More info at http://midtownatl.com/article.php?i=53

Random side story: I once agreed to watch two standard poodles when a friend was out-of-town. It was all fine and dandy until they started nibbling on my hands, which is apparently a way of showing dominance but really just freaked me out and resulted in my bolting from the house and calling a guy friend to handle the pet-sitting duties.

Last night we got sashy.

Last night we channeled Martha Stewart and designed sashes for the participants in this Thursday’s One Love Generation date auction.

Pretty fancy, no? It’s amazing what some glitter and puffy paint can do when five girls are inspired by red wine and the douchebaggery of a certain individual who will remain nameless.**

This Thursday, April 7, Trey Humphreys, Ace Amerson & Jennifer Lester will harness the cougar energy at Johnny’s Hideaway to host the second annual date auction where you can find love … or at least bid on hotties with equally awesome dates (dugout seats at a Braves game to tickets to see Katy Perry to the potentially very awkward couple’s massage).

Photos and details of this year’s auctionees are up on Metromix: http://atlanta.metromix.com/events/essay_photo_gallery/one-love-generation-date/2531303/content

$10 donation at the door to benefit One Love Generation, a non-profit organization empowering youth to inspire positive social change through art, service and awareness. More info at http://onelovegeneration.org.

** I don’t want to leave this person nameless and faceless but I promised.
