I wish I could claim I coined this addition to the English language, but alas, I cannot.
The first known use of the word occurred three(ish) years ago at a dinner party. It was one of those parties where you really only know the host and so you end up either meeting tons of new people or ducking out early for a “friend’s birthday party.”
Somewhere between discussing political-types and finishing my third glass of champagne, I struck up a conversation with Scotty. He was (or is) a bit short and a bit dorky. But he was full of hilarity and love for life and had all sorts of thoughts about all sorts of interesting things. We got on the subject of relationships and he began telling me about his life partner. I asked him to give me a word to describe her and he said:
”Quite simply, she is pimpy.”
I’ve embraced the word ever since.
To me, and for purposes of this blog, pimpy is a word to describe anything that is simultaneously awesome, invigorating, and enticing. Pimpy is both fabulous and ridiculous. It dances on the edge of being “too much,” but only in that it is thrilling and inspiring and keeps you wanting more. Pimpy is classy and cool; never tacky or in poor form.
I never met Scotty’s girl so I don’t know exactly what he meant by the word, but I am fairly positive he would give her all these adjectives if given the time. But, since he was asked to do it in one word, he settled on pimpy.
And so will I.
Nice blog.. You’ve made a fan out of me.
