Tweed not greed.

One of my favorite professors was English and while teaching he liked to remind us that “the British, and hence the better, rule” was [insert a property rights law that has been wholly useless in my career, except when George Clooney referenced it in The Descendants and finally (finally!) my law degree came in handy].

An admitted anglophile I think most everything the Brits do is better, including, as it turns out, protesting.

This past Monday, staffers at the magazine CHAP protested the opening of an Abercrombie + Fitch store in Saville Row, London, the area home to bespoke tailoring in England for more than 200 years.

Did they protest the bawdy ads? The threat of hordes of tourists cluttering up the pavements in “their excitement at the thought of buying a ladies’ T-shirt saying ‘Who Needs a Brain When You’ve Got These?’”  Or, as one tailor simply put it, a “chain store selling crappy clothes to ghastly people”?

Yeah. Basically.

And I love it, because ever since I was a somewhat chubby 13-year-old who didn’t look like any of the waifs working at A&F, I have felt the store could use some classing up.

Oh I’m feeling 17 Again. (Another hint.)

Although piecing together fashionable outfits appropriate for 26 degree weather and fitting it all in a carry-on is not as easy as one might think. But it’s fun. Oh it’s fun. Bring on the hot toddies.
